WHAT: The CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital – Texarkana Women and Children’s department will host a World Breastfeeding Week Celebration to encourage and educate all new and expectant mothers.
WHEN: Saturday, August 3, 2019, 2:00p.m. – 3:00p.m.
WHERE: CHRISTUS St. Michael North Conference Center.
WHY: World Breastfeeding Week was first celebrated in 1992 by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and is now observed in over 120 countries by UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO) and their partners including individuals, organizations and governments. The WHO and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) emphasize the value of breastfeeding for mothers as well as children. Both recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and then supplemented breastfeeding for at least one year and up to two years or more.
