I was born in Joplin, MO and lived all over the area when I was in elementary school.
We moved North to Morris, IL my fourth grade year. After a few years of being the resident “hillbillies” up there we came back to this area and I went to high school in Chetopa, KS where my bizarre sense of humor was actually encouraged.
I graduated in ’97 and went to Labette Community College in Parsons as a journalism major and an education major. I think I may have majored in shenanigans for a semester...
I had always felt a passion for Radio and when I was only 19, I got my first shot as a DJ on KGND 107.5 FM in Vinita, OK doing the overnight request show. That gig only lasted about five months because the station was sold and all employees were let go.
After that, I proceeded to quit school, move to Altamont, then Parsons and worked every crappy job in the area for the next five years.
Finally, after much prodding and pushing by my family, and especially my little brother, I came to Pittsburg and went back to school and gradutated as a communications major with an emphasis on broadcasting.
Here in Pittsburg, I began bugging folks at the local TV and Radio stations and lo and behold, it eventually paid off and I received my second shot at radio thanks to Thom and 96.9 The Kow.
I feel so lucky to be pretty much living my dream. I love working at KKOW and plan to make it last until they toss me out on my arse.
One of my favorite things about working at the Kow is the freedom I've been allowed to make the show more interesting. My advice to you - NEVER TURN YOUR RADIO OFF - You'll miss something.
